When I was 6 years old, I had surgery for strabismus because neither orthoptics nor patching my good eye produced positive results. No one ever really told me what it meant to have a lazy eye. As a child, I was extremely awkward and, on occasion, suffered falls with serious consequences. As an adult, I had many fender-benders with my car.

在我6歲時，由於遮蓋沒有效果，我做瞭斜視手術。沒有人告訴過我，弱視意味著什麼。小時候，我的動作極其笨拙，有時甚至會嚴重摔傷自己，成年後，開車經常刮蹭。

For a very long time, I felt clumsy without understanding why, and I felt that my right eye was “completely dead”. It became increasingly more difficult to read, whether it was books or the computer screen, and eventually I came to avoid anything that would require visual effort.

我覺得自己很笨，但又不知道問題在哪裡，我感覺自己的右眼，像是“完全死掉”一樣。閱讀變得越來越困難，不管是看書還是看電腦。最後，我不得不盡量避免，任何需要用眼的活動。

I decided to seek help. I consulted many ophthalmologists and opticians and the answer was always the same, “You have a lazy eye and almost no prescription, so there are no glasses that can help you.” That's when, luckily for me, I went to Pilar’s office and discovered what the term lazy eye means; I did not see the same way as most other people, in three dimensions!

我決定尋求幫助，雖然咨詢瞭很多醫生，但他們通常都會說：“你患有弱視，已經到瞭無法驗光的程度，所以沒法幫你配鏡”。幸運的是，最後我到瞭皮拉爾的診所，終於知道瞭弱視是什麼意思：我雙眼的工作方式，和大多數人不一樣，我沒有立體視！

At that point I did not really understand the true significance of this limitation, but I do now! Pilar offered help and new prospects opened. I will never forget my first pair of glasses and the physical effect they had on me. When I put on the specialized lenses, my muscles relaxed from head to toe. The deviation of my eye reduced from 30-35 diopters to 10 diopters, and my visual acuity increased from 20/100 to 20/25.

其實那時我沒有真正明白，沒有立體視對我有什麼影響。現在我明白瞭。皮拉爾的幫助讓我看到瞭希望。我永遠不會忘記，在戴上第一副眼鏡後，是什麼樣的感覺。這副眼鏡是特殊定制的，戴上後，感覺從頭到腳肌肉都放松瞭。我雙眼的斜視，從30-35個棱鏡度，降到10個棱鏡度，我的視力從0.2提高到0.8。

My eye revived and, with the specialized glasses, I was no longer aware of my wandering eye. I felt better, much better! My clumsiness had an explanation, and my physical demeanor changed. My treatment lasted almost one year, and it resulted in many successes, but l still did not achieve stereopsis and 3D vision.

我的眼睛，就像煥發瞭生機，從來沒有感覺這麼好過！我也終於明白，自己之前為什麼會那麼笨拙，現在身體動作協調多瞭。我的治療持續瞭將近一年，視功能有很大改善，但還沒有建立立體視。

Then, life forced me to take a break and I stopped therapy, but years later I had the opportunity to retake the challenge and resume therapy Behold, all of the work done years ago finally resulted in a miracle! After a few months I began to see in 3D. I am now continuing therapy so that my eyes will work together, and I will live the rest of my life in a much better and happier way.

後來因為個人原因，我不得不停止治療。好在幾年後，我有機會重新開始。治療產生瞭奇跡般的效果。僅僅幾個月後，我就有瞭立體視。目前我還在進行視覺訓練，希望我的雙眼視功能，可以繼續提高，希望我今後能過上幸福美好的生活。

I am 47 years old now, and a few months ago, for the first time in my life, I saw in 3 dimensions. It was an amazing experience. I imagine that for someone who has always seen the world in 3D, this will have no meaning.

我現在已經47歲，幾個月前，我第一次看到立體的世界，這種感覺太奇妙瞭。我猜想，對於立體視一直正常的人來說，這不算什麼。

Maybe you can try to imagine it - as my friend told me the other day, “It's like going from a black and white view of the world to seeing the world in color.” My positive experience goes beyond that, my world has gone from being flat like a photograph, to perceiving every detail of an image in its entirety. In fact, it has totally changed my perception of myself in the world.

當然，你也可以試著想象一下，就像一個朋友前幾天告訴我的一樣：“這就像從黑白的世界，跨越到瞭色彩繽紛的世界”。但我覺得這個比喻，還不足以形容我的經歷。我從前眼中的世界，就像一張照片，而現在，我可以看到世界的完整細節。事實上，我對世界的感受完全改變。

Despite having been operated on for a convergent strabismus, Elena was visually uncomfortable all of the time. Aesthetically, Elena's eyes were almost straight, but she had very poor visual acuity in her amblyopic eye, (20/200) and therefore she could not see the world in 3D.

埃琳娜之前做過斜視手術，她的視功能一直有問題。從外觀上看，她的眼睛基本處於正位，但弱視眼視力非常差，隻有0.1，沒有立體視。

OPTOMETRIC TREATMENT:

It took many months of vision therapy and hard work on both Elena's and my part to get the first fusion responses, then Elena had to discontinue vision therapy due to work issues. I referred her to another optometric colleague whose office was closer to her job. The result has been magnificent! As you can see from her own words, Elena is now a different person.
