夏天的一個周末，五歲的薩沙和哥哥托利亞，跟父母一起到森林中去玩。

One weekend in summer, the five-year-old Sasha and her older brother Pretoria went to play in a little forest with their parents (2).

Scenery In the woods was beautiful and the air was fresh. (3)

They arrived at an open ground in the area where gorgeous Lilies of the Valley were blooming. (4)

It turned out there was a cluster of wild roses surrounded by Lilies of the Valley.

開出瞭第一朵粉紅色的花。

The roses’ first pink flower was in bloom.

帶著露珠的花朵隨風舞動，芬芳撲鼻。

The dew-laden flower wavered in the wind with its sweet fragrance permeating the air.

一傢人坐在野薔薇旁邊，聊起天來。

The entire family sat beside the wild roses and began to chitchat.

突然，雷聲大作，天上飄下幾滴雨點，

Suddenly thunders rumbled and several raindrops fell from the sky.

緊接著，下起瞭傾盆大雨。

Then torrential rain came down.

媽媽趕緊從背包裡拿出雨衣遞給身邊的托利亞，

Mother quickly took out a raincoat and handed it to Pretoria beside her.

托利亞又把雨衣給瞭薩沙。

Pretoria passed the raincoat to Sasha.

薩沙不解地問：“媽媽，您和托利亞都需要雨衣呀，

Sasha was puzzled and asked: “Mother, you and Pretoria need the raincoat.

為什麼要給我呢？”

Why do you give it to me?”

媽媽回答說：“我們應該保護比自己弱小的。”

Mother answered: “We should protect those who are weaker than us.”

薩沙又問：“這就是說，我是最弱小的瞭？”

Sasha asked: “Are you saying I’m the weakest?”

“要是你誰也保護不瞭，那你就是最弱小的。”

“If you are unable to protect anyone, then you are the weakest.”

媽媽說著摸瞭摸薩沙的腦袋。

Mother said while stroking Sasha’s head.

薩沙朝薔薇花叢走去。

Sasha walked towards the rose.

大雨已經打掉瞭兩片薔薇花瓣，

The heavy rain had already broken off two rose petals.

花兒無力地垂著頭，顯得更加嬌嫩。

The little flower was drooping helplessly and looking daintier.

薩沙掀起雨衣，輕輕地遮在薔薇花上，

Sasha lifted her raincoat and gently shielded the rose.

問道：“媽媽，現在我還是最弱小的嗎？”

Then she asked: “Mother, am I the weakest now?”

媽媽笑著說：“不，不，你能保護更弱小的，你是勇敢的孩子啦！”

Mother said with a smile: “No, you are capable of protecting someone weaker and you are a brave child.”

(1) 名字翻譯可能不準確。

(2) 親屬名稱

通用的英文字 “brother” 是 “兄弟”, “sister” 是 “姐妹”, 俚語是 “bro” 和 “sis” (註意: 親密稱呼好友也可以稱作“bro” 和 “sis”)

哥哥是 “older brother/elder brother”, 弟弟是 “younger brother”, 姐姐/妹妹 是 “older/elder sister” 和 “younger sister”.

在此文章第一次提及 “森林” 用 “a” - “a little forest” – 指 “沒有指定的某一個森林”, 第二次說及剛才提及的 “森林 ” 便用 “the” – “the woods” 指 “那一個森林”.

沒有 “a” 或 “the” 一般是討論式的句子, 例如 “Forest is beautiful.” 指 “普遍來說森林是美麗 ”, 用 “A forest is beautiful.” 也可, 但上文沒有提及這森林 說 “The forest is beautiful.” 便是錯的。

(4) 重復字

起初 “gorgeous lilies of the valley were blooming”我寫為 “beautiful lilies of the valley were blooming”, 但 “beautiful” 剛才已經用過, 所以改為 “gorgeous”.
